GIS Analyst/Technician

Primary Responsibilities include:
  • Design and coordinate development of integrated GIS databases of spatial data
  • Develop analyses and presentation of data, applying knowledge of geographic information systems and map projections
  • Review existing and incoming data for quality and documentation; entry of data into database, application of coordinate geometry, keyboard entry of tabular data, manual digitizing of maps, scanning and automatic conversion to vectors, and conversion of other sources of digital data
  • Maintains and updates databases using GIS software
  • Image rectification/georeferencing and image manipulation
  • Develops and maintains links between various databases
  • Determine effective presentation of information and select cartographic elements needed
  • Create output, such as maps and graphs, using computer and geographic information system software and related equipment, including plotters
  • Compile digital data needed to produce maps; convert data as necessary
  • Determine methods to analyze spatial relationships, including adjacency, containment, and proximity; display results of analyses using maps, graphs, and tabular data
  • Spatial Analysis/mapping/modeling/reporting
Requirements include:
  • Requires a minimum of 4 years experience
  • Demonstrated Geographic Information Systems experience is required
  • Demonstrated experience with ESRI products is preferred
  • Experience in public and private sector assignments preferred
  • Experience in complex application development projects ,multiple types of business functional areas, multiple types of interorganizational/intraorganizational issues to be considered, and multiple types of information technology components used
  • Experience as either a junior team member or a team leader on a major project
  • Primary skill/tool set includes:
    • Spatial analysis techniques in both raster and vector GIS
    • Wide variety of data format and data conversion knowledge
    • Remote sensing and imagery; field collection
    • Knowledge of GPS and GPS accuracy standards
    • Paper to digital conversion techniques (scanning and digitizing)
    • Conflation and rubbersheeting
    • Editing techniques
    • QA/QC procedures
    • Projections and coordinate systems
    • Scripting knowledge for speeding data processing
    • Color model knowledge
    • Image analysis including re-sampling techniques, geo-registration and rectification
    • CAD (Microstation) to GIS conversion
    • Image file format knowledge including knowledge of advantages and disadvantages of different formats, particularly when used in paper to digital conversions
    • Cartographic standards
    • ESRI products (Desktop, Server, Developer, and Mobile)
    • Written/verbal communication skills, written and verbal English language proficiency is required
  • Secondary skill/tool set includes:
    • Knowledge/experience with other commercial and open source GIS software packages such as PostGIS and PostgreSQL

GIS Web Developer

Primary Responsibilities include:
  • Well-demonstrated skills in interactive user interface design and visual design
  • Geographic Information Systems web site design
  • Strong understanding and experience with web technologies

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot problems with existing Web applications and sites

  • Install and configure HTTP servers and associated operating systems, and establish appropriate server directory trees
  • Thorough understanding of application development methodologies

Tier II Technical Support

Essential Functions of Technical Support

The primary goal of the Technical Support department is to offer courteous service and high quality support to our clients. We make every effort to respond quickly to the needs of our clients and provide technically proficient support and resolve issues in a timely fashion.

Members of the Technical Support team must have the ability to work well with others, working with clients directly and working with other employees to provide support. As this support is offered both by phone and email, members of the team must have strong written and verbal communication skills. It is essential that team members build rapport, listen, question and elicit problem details from clients in order to effectively provide the appropriate support. With the complex and often frustrating nature of computer software-related issues, it is essential that team members present ideas and solutions in a user-friendly language and courteous, assuring tone.

While multiple clients seek support simultaneously having varying degrees of need, team members must additionally exhibit excellent time management skills.

Team Members must have proven analytical and problem-solving abilities, exhibiting a keen attention to detail. As required, individuals must have the ability to conduct research into various issues, collaborating with other team members to reach resolution.

In order to consistently delivery excellent support, team members are expected to evaluate resolved issues, analyzing and communicating trends within the department. Tests must be performed on proposed fixes and workarounds while post-resolution follow-ups must be made in order to confirm successful long-term resolution.

Job Description / Essential Functions

The Tier II Technical Support staff assists clients with more complex use of the SDS DREAMaps software suite, providing more involved support that may include custom implementations. The role of the Tier II Support Analyst is to ensure proper software, hardware and user operation to assist clients as they manage the workflow within their organization. In order to successfully fill this role, the individual must acquire a thorough knowledge of the DREAMaps suite and the various hardware and software used with and supported by the suite. A comprehensive understanding of maintenance, install and upgrade procedures, backup implementation and system configuration is required.

The Tier II Support Analyst is expected to provide prompt and courteous assistance both by phone and email, receiving and prioritizing support requests while documenting the needs and support provided. The Analyst is responsible for actively resolving client help requests by interpreting and troubleshooting complex issues associated with installing and using SDS software. By listening and questioning, the Analyst must be able to identify problems and offer quality technical responses, fixes and updates to solve the problems efficiently and effectively. Issue resolution may involve the creation of customized workaround procedures and/or the modification of these procedures.

Tier II Support individuals should exhibit a comprehensive, working knowledge of SDS software with experience in recognizing trends and solving known issues. A complete understanding of the install process and daily use functions is required.

Common Tasks:

  • Answering client inquiries regarding software and hardware operation
  • Observing system functions to ensure correct installation and operation
  • Performing troubleshooting procedures to investigate problems and detect both software and user errors
  • Creating and/or modifying customized programs, applications and workarounds to provide client-specific support
  • Testing the feasibility and functionality of procedures and customized programs with workflow analysis
  • Maintaining daily documentation of client communication, issues noted, actions taken and resolution achieved
  • Communicating trends and common issues / resolutions with other technical support team members and managers

Required Knowledge / Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in GIS/Geography or equivalent experience
  • ESRI ArcMap, ArcCatalog, ArcSDE, Microsoft Office
  • Python Scripts, 1 -2 years of SQL experience VB is a plus but is not required
