Washoe County, Nevada Selects Smart Data Strategies to Upgrade and Improve Maintenance of Parcel Database
November 2007: Smart Data Strategies, Inc. (SDS) announces today that Washoe County (Reno), Nevada has selected SDS for their GIS Data Conversion and Parcel Mapping Application Upgrade Project. The primary goals of the project are to convert the existing assessor tax maps from an ArcInfo workstation-based system to an ESRI geodatabase environment and to replace the county assessor’s outdated map editing tools.
DREAMaps™ Mapper, SDS’ parcel editing extension to ESRI’s ArcGIS, will be customized to closely match the functionality that exists within the current system. DREAMapsä Mapper will provide the county with a complete set of COGO editing tools, methods of capturing parcel history, and quality control tools, taking advantage of the latest technology to ensure a topologically correct geodatabase. In order to greatly streamline the parcel editing process, DREAMaps™ Mapper will be integrated with the existing CAMA system to reduce duplicate data entry and eliminate orphan creation.
Washoe County will be the second largest DREAMaps™ Mapper installation in the country behind the City of Phoenix, Arizona.
About DREAMaps Mapper
DREAMaps™ Mapper is a customizable extension to ArcGIS, the powerful GIS engine developed by Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI). DREAMapsä Mapper consolidates the primary tasks of a mapping office – splitting existing parcels, joining existing parcels, digitally constructing new parcel geometry, updating property-related data, and importing parcel graphics from other systems – into a collection of intuitive workflows that help to automate common functions within ESRI's ArcMap environment. Automated processes working in the background ensure data integrity. DREAMaps™ Mapper has been used to maintain parcels since 1997 and currently has nearly 200 users nationwide.
